The End of the World As We Know It Apr. 15th, 2006 @ 12:50 am
Something like 10 days of class left.

[e.g. 10 days of never getting to go back to class, fulltime anyway.]

Grad school begins to look more appealing by the second..

Unfortunately, looks like I get to work like a fiend for a while to pay back the student loans.

Meantime, I'm slamming through the end semester's worth of homework, which, for me, is an inordinate amount of junk I don't feel like doing, e.g. Senioritis++

The only thing I am really set on doing right now is my final project for software engineering. Myself, Mike, and Chris are working on this THING which will rock.

e.g.

THE ZIGTV SHOW GENERATOR.

The idea is to allow anyone with a web browser to be able to easily create a TV show which will then air on an on-campus TV channel. You go to the site, upload movies, create slideshows, and assemble a show which, once approved by TV station staff, will then air on the on-campus TV channel that night.

Interactive TV to the max, says I.

We've only just begun the work on this one, but we're doing it for real with a full requirements doc, UI prototypes, and 4 tiered "enterprise" architecture.

We're using (in this order): HTML, CSS, PHP Smarty Templates, PHP, PHP DataObjects, and Mysql. This will be the first thing I've written on PHP5/MySQL5, both which sport some ridiculous new features that make them easily comparable to C#/ASP.NET/MSSQL.

Also, if you're planning to write any kind of PHP/MySQL thing in the near future, definitely check out DB_DataObject. It basically makes each of your tables look like a class (so you can do stuff like $user->$firstname) and generates all the SQL queries for you. VERY nice, it works well so far.
